The main languages are Kashmiri, Urdu, Hindi, and English. Most people involved in tourism also speak English.
Light woolens and cotton are recommended for summer. Winter requires heavy woolens, especially in Gulmarg, with warm jackets, gloves, etc.
Top attractions include Dal Lake, Mughal Gardens, Pahalgam, Sonmarg, Gulmarg, shikara boat rides, and gondola rides. Activities like skiing and river rafting are also popular.
The Indian rupee is the accepted currency. Limited places accept credit cards, so carrying cash is advisable, especially for activities.
Kashmiri cuisine offers lip-smacking meat curries, biryanis, and breads. Some local delicacies are Rogan Josh, Yakhni, kebabs, etc.
Kashmir is very safe for tourists. There is tight security to ensure tourist safety and comfort. Solo female travelers also feel comfortable touring Kashmir.
No special vaccinations are required except for recommended routine immunizations.
Carry woolens, thermals, sunglasses, walking shoes, medicines, and sunscreen. Also carry the required permits and government ID proof. Keep local currency and only the necessary valuables.
